Make a difference
What does the money go to? Yes, that's a really good question. We support various social, diaconal and church projects in Africa đ
Every time you buy a pair of shoes, a saucepan or a dress in one of our thrift stores (or in the webshop), you give a helping hand to people who are struggling to break out of poverty and need.
Your help makes a difference, because it often takes less than you think. And our African partners know the local needs and ensure that the help reaches those who need it most.
Here are some of the projects we support:
Microloans for women in Mali
We support a village development project that primarily helps women through microloans for goat farming and crops. The women receive start-up capital, and then they receive training in reading and writing, entrepreneurship, cooperation and business management. We see a circular effect where families and entire villages rise up. More children are sent to school and receive the right medical care. Women become aware of their own rights and stand stronger in society and in their own economic capacity.
Street boys' home in Cameroon
We support the Lutheran Church's home for street boys in Cameroon. Here, street boys can come in and get food and care. They can also live there for periods and go to school. The boys are helped to restore contact with their families or establish a new network, to ensure long-term support. At the street boys home, they are met with love and are told that they are valuable exactly as they are.
Scholarships for education
We support young people's education with scholarships. 6 out of 10 Africans are under 25 years old, and many young people want to make a difference and create a better future, both for themselves and for the society they are a part of. Unfortunately, far from all young people have the opportunity to get an education, but with scholarships many more get a chance.
Construction of health centers
We support hospitals and health centers with equipment, training and expertise. Many people in Africa do not have access to hospitals and health centers, and there is a great shortage of health workers and medicine. Often the church plays an important role in building society, and we support the work of churches to strengthen health work so that more people can have basic health needs covered.
Help for victims of violence
We support innocent victims of war and violence. We work in areas where there are many deep conflicts, and many innocents are caught in the crossfire. Here we support our African partners in arranging trauma healing courses, where victims are helped to process their trauma and given tools to rebuild their lives.
Emergency aid in crisis
We support local relief work when natural disasters and other major crises strike. In Africa, people often turn to the church when they are in need. The church plays a major role in relief work. The churches are locally rooted and are in the middle of the hotspots, so they help ensure an efficient and fair distribution of relief. Food, clothing and blankets are distributed to help people through the first critical period of an emergency.
THANK YOU for shopping for recycled goods â¤ď¸ You help spread hope, new opportunities and faith in the future.
