The African style adds warmth and personality
Africa is definitely a style in home decor. We welcome the warm colors here in the cold north. The inspiration from a more exotic place in the world breathes into our straight lines and right angles.
African masks are small works of art
African masks carry many traditions and stories of spiritual powers. The masks have typically been used at landmark events ranging from fertility rituals to funerals. Here in Denmark, the interest in African masks is more for decoration, and they are therefore also produced for that purpose.
The masks have a wild expression and work really well in combination with the Nordic and more rigorous design tradition. Each mask is a small work of art in itself. You can hang it on the wall and let it speak for itself, or let it be part of a larger wall of pictures.
African characters tell stories
African figures are often carved from wood, making them warm, decorative and pleasant to look at. A small figure on a bookshelf or windowsill can tell many imaginative stories from warm countries.
If you have been to Africa yourself, the figures can also be a small reminder of your own history.
No matter how you use inspiration from the mother continent of Africa in your interior design - whether it's African posters, masks, figurines or perhaps a fiery color nuance on the wall - it's good to have inspiration from outside. Then we suddenly see things in a new light.
